Pitbull won’t stop hugging woman after she adopts him

With how amazing dogs are, it’s heartbreaking to imagine even a single one of them being abused or not having a home.

But the reality is that about 3.3 million dogs enter animal shelters in the United States annually, according to the ASPCA. Not all of them make it out either.

A Pennsylvania woman named Kayla Filoon knows all about working with animals in need.

She spent time volunteering at the ACCT Philly shelter helping walk dogs, while also attending college. Her mom and aunt volunteered at the facility too.

Although Kayla was always surrounded by canines – there was one that stood out to her.

Russ is a pit bull that wasn’t in the best of shape when Kayla first met him.

She told The Dodo:

“He came in as a stray, and he was really beat up. He was missing fur on his tail and ears.

He was also terribly skinny. They told me he was about 40 pounds when he came into the shelter.”

The college student could tell what a sweetheart four-year-old Russ was.

Understandably, it didn’t take long for Kayla to become smitten with the pooch. She explained:

“He was just sitting there calmly, staring at me. And I thought, he is adorable! I need to take him now.”

After bonding with Russ at the shelter she decided to give him a forever home.

Kayla knew that she had to act quickly if she wanted to adopt Russ.

The facility was overcrowded and approximately 15 animals had (recently) been put down.

Because of Russ’s condition, he had a greater chance of being euthanized.

So, she took him on a special car ride one day, and when they got back, she started filling out the adoption papers.

In the end, she was officially Russ’s Mom! At the time Kayla lived with five other roommates, meaning there was lots of love for the pit bull.

There’s a specific photo that captured the internet’s heart.

Almost two weeks after adopting Russ, Kayla was on the couch doing homework with her new furbaby by her side.

One of the roommates noticed and couldn’t help but snap a photo of the adorable sight. From what it appears, Russ is “hugging” Kayla.

If this isn’t pure love then I don’t know what is…

Kayla’s aunt couldn’t help but share the amazing photo on Facebook.

She wrote:

“And THIS right here people is why you should adopt!!! My niece and her newly adopted ACCT Philly dog of less than 2 weeks.

Talk about being grateful. There are just no words to truly describe the sweetness in this photo.❤️ Save a Life – Adopt/Foster today! ❤️”

The beautiful photo and story spread like wildfire across the globe.

Because of the incredible response, Kayla decided to make a Facebook page dedicated to Russ’s journey.

It’s called “Russ – The Tale of an ACCT Philly Rescue Dog.” According to the page, some of the pooch’s favorite activities are sleeping, cuddling, eating, and getting out for walks.

In her opening post, Kayla shares:

“My little adoption story is certainly special to me and to Russ but it is not unique.

Many adopters can say the same thing about the little loveable Pittie mix that they gave a much needed and much deserved home to.

These dogs are not broken. They are full of love to give and those of us who are lucky enough to be on the receiving end have little to compare the joy that it brings.”

She ends the post with the following:

“We hope Russ’s story will inspire more people to adopt from local shelters and view Pit Bull mixes as the loving, happy, loyal and devoted creatures that they are.”
